I had the opportunity to watch a local gaming group (Neighborhood Waagh! on Facebook) hold a couple of Apocalypse battles here in Seattle this last weekend. I must say that it was pretty impressive! 8000 points a side, and one custom gaming table, bringing my son along (although he found a buddy playing iPad and immediately got sucked into watching the games he was playing). It was fun to watch a few hours of battle unfold for these guys. I’ve posted some pics of the two concurrent tables playing their battles.
On table 1, the forces of Chaos are storming the beaches of an Imperium/Eldar alliance strong point. This is a custom 8’x6′ table created just before this game and the results were amazing. I saw pictures of this before the game, and the pictures didn’t give the size of the table justice. It was really magnificent in person, especially with all the painted minis on it. The pics below are semi-chronological from some points along the way of turn 2 I think. I love the custom Nurgle Heldrakes and all the zombies storming out of the waves up the beach. Well done guys!
On the 2nd table, the forces of the Tau Empire with Blood Angel allies battled it out against the Orks in a cityscape. Lots of gargants and boys doing battle with a ton of suits and Storm Raven gunships. Really fierce battle with lots of things going boom on this table. I was there to see the lifta-droppa on on Gargant hurt a Storm Talon gunship crashing into the ground, which was pretty crazy.
Wasn’t able to stay for but a hour or hour and a half, but the battles looked to be good fun and some really nicely painted models and sportsmanship. Very cool – inspiring for setting up more Apocalyptic battles!
